How ACT Scoring Works:

1. Raw Score: Number of correct answers in each section
2. Scale Score: Raw score converted to 1-36 scale
3. Section Scores: Four scores (English, Math, Reading, Science)
4. Composite Score: Average of four section scores (rounded)

Example Calculation:

English: 24, Math: 26, Reading: 28, Science: 25
Average: (24 + 26 + 28 + 25) ÷ 4 = 25.75
Rounded: 25.75 → 26 composite
Writing Score: Scored separately (2-12), doesn't affect composite

How is the ACT composite score calculated?

The composite ACT score is the average of your four section scores (English, Math, Reading, Science), rounded to the nearest whole number.

What is a good ACT score?

A score of 21 is average nationally. Scores of 24+ are above average, 29+ are excellent, and 33+ are exceptional for top colleges.

Does the Writing section affect my composite score?

No, the Writing (essay) section is scored separately (2-12) and does not affect your 1-36 composite score.

How often can I take the ACT?

You can take the ACT up to 12 times total, with up to 7 attempts during standard test dates.

What's the difference between ACT and SAT?

ACT has a Science section and faster pacing. SAT focuses more on vocabulary and has no Science section. Most colleges accept both equally.
